Summary

From the bestselling author of In an Instant comes a heartrending story about the power of friendship during the most challenging moments in life。

It’s been eight years since a tragic accident changed Mo Kaminski’s and Chloe Miller’s lives forever。 Now in their midtwenties, they’re sharing an apartment in San Francisco and navigating the normal challenges of early adulthood。 Along with their roommate, Hazel, they are making their marks on the world—Mo revolutionizing the news with her media start-up, Hazel using her big brain to anticipate the future, and Chloe rescuing abandoned strays in the city。

But when Hazel disappears after being sexually assaulted, Mo’s and Chloe’s lives are again suddenly ripped apart。 And when the perpetrator turns up drugged and beaten, the mystery of where Hazel is deepens。 Intensely worried and desperate to discover the truth, they set out to find Hazel and bring her home。

Mo and Chloe are no strangers to tragedy, but this journey will test them in ways they never imagined。 The stakes are high; the future uncertain; the need for justice essential。

Will their commitment to their friend bring them closer together—or ultimately drive them apart?

Let me start by saying this is my first Suzanne Redfearn book, so I didn't have the benefit of knowing the characters' backstories。 I was only thrown off balance a couple of times, once not understanding how Chloe knew Kyle and why he was so upset with her。This book deals with a very difficult subject: date rape。 I feel like the author handled it well, but unfortunately I felt that the policeman was stereotyped back to the 1950's, and so was Chloe's actions towards him。 Those things from either Let me start by saying this is my first Suzanne Redfearn book, so I didn't have the benefit of knowing the characters' backstories。 I was only thrown off balance a couple of times, once not understanding how Chloe knew Kyle and why he was so upset with her。This book deals with a very difficult subject: date rape。 I feel like the author handled it well, but unfortunately I felt that the policeman was stereotyped back to the 1950's, and so was Chloe's actions towards him。 Those things from either person wouldn't fly these days。I found it unusual that while Mo (Maureen) is a successful businesswoman, doing interviews on CNN with Jake Tapper, that she still has a roommate。 I guess since Hazel is central to the story she had to fit in somewhere, or maybe it was just the characters ages。All in all, I would definitely read more books by this author。Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own。 。。。more

Moment in Time is Suzanne Redfearn's latest novel。 Redfearn again tackles relationships of many types。 The plot of Moment in Time was inspired by a personal connection to a real life event。 Chloe, Mo and Hazel have been friends for a long time。 Eight years ago, a tragic accident changed their lives - in many different ways。 Now they're in their mid twenties。 Chloe is a vet, Mo is on the cusp of making her news start up bigger and better and Hazel is a scientist。 Tragedy strikes again when Hazel Moment in Time is Suzanne Redfearn's latest novel。 Redfearn again tackles relationships of many types。 The plot of Moment in Time was inspired by a personal connection to a real life event。 Chloe, Mo and Hazel have been friends for a long time。 Eight years ago, a tragic accident changed their lives - in many different ways。 Now they're in their mid twenties。 Chloe is a vet, Mo is on the cusp of making her news start up bigger and better and Hazel is a scientist。 Tragedy strikes again when Hazel is sexually assaulted。 And then the alleged assaulter is found drugged and beaten - and Hazel goes missing。The search for Hazel is the focus for Chloe and Mo, but we only really get to 'know' her through Chloe and Mo's viewpoints。 Mo is ambitious and somewhat single minded and I had a hard time liking her。 She does have the most 'solid' personal life though。 The most chaotic life belongs to Chloe, and she's the human I liked the most。 Some of that is because she's a vet with a penchant for rescuing animals。 Ruby the dog is her latest rescue。 However, she does something early on in the date rape investigation that I really disagreed with and that tainted my picture of this character。 In the end it was Ruby the dog who won my heart - faithful, loyal, brave and a survivor。 The dog's struggle mimics that of the human characters。 Where does friendship and loyalty begin and end? When and where does the right thing to do, according to the law and society take precedence over that friendship?Chloe and Mo begin searching for Hazel, based on some cryptic clues and memories。 Chloe is a laid back person, but I found her choices along the way to be more than a little risky。 Given what has just happened to her friend, I questioned if someone would fall in love with a man in less than a week? Take refuge with another pair of strangers the same day? That 'good guy' vibe isn't always right。 The romantic piece of the plot would have made a great book on it's own, but for me didn't suit what I considered to be the serious main idea。 Supporting player Kyle (Mo's significant other) was realistically drawn and likeable。 He questions the two women's actions so far, especially Mo's。The book gets busier as we head to the final end game。 Loose ends are neatly tied up - with a grain of salt in some cases。 Poor Hazel is never really given a voice of her own, despite being the catalyst for the book。 I've enjoyed previous books by Redfearn and would happily pick up her next。 Moment in Time just wasn't a stand out for me。 There was just too much going on。 Readers, the crime and police handling of the crime in this novel may be triggering。 (And I do question the legal and hospital protocols depicted) 。。。more

Happy pub week! It’s no secret I loved Suzanne Redfearn’s powerful and emotional book, In an Instant, which features a tragic accident。 Moment in Time is a follow-up to that book, which is a gift from Redfearn to her readers。 How often do we get to revisit characters we connected with in an act two? Another fantastic novel by Suzanne Redfearn。 The author did a great job of dealing with delicate subjects like sexual assault, drugs and mental health issues。 She portrayed the roommates/friends as very close。 The only thing I had an issue with were all the different characters, especially the ones from her previous novels。 I had to try to think back to those books to remember who they were and what they were about。(Its been a couple of years since I've read In An Instant, and I've read numerous Another fantastic novel by Suzanne Redfearn。 The author did a great job of dealing with delicate subjects like sexual assault, drugs and mental health issues。 She portrayed the roommates/friends as very close。 The only thing I had an issue with were all the different characters, especially the ones from her previous novels。 I had to try to think back to those books to remember who they were and what they were about。(Its been a couple of years since I've read In An Instant, and I've read numerous other books since then )All in all, this was a great book and I would highly recommend it。 。。。more

Moment in Time by Suzanne Redfearn is a fast-paced novel about three friends caught in a tragic turn of events, who must unravel the truth with help from new and old friends in an unfair world。I’d read and enjoyed Suzanne Redfearn’s previous book Hadley and Grace, so when the author invited me to read her latest novel Moment in Time, I was excited to pick it up。 Before I began reading, I skimmed the synopsis but didn’t read any early reviews, which is typical for me when I’m reading a book by an author I know。 However, two of the main characters from Moment in Time—Mo and Chloe—also appear in Suzanne Redfearn’s previous novel In an Instant, a book I own but haven’t read yet。 And while it wasn’t necessary to read the previous book, the events and outcome of In an Instant are revealed in Moment in Time, leaving me thoroughly and completely spoiled。 Oops。Thankfully my mind is like a sieve, so if I wait long enough, I’ll probably forget。 For instance, two side characters from her novel Hadley and Grace, which I DID read, also appear in Moment in Time but I had no memory of them。The author does mention the connection in her acknowledgements at the end of the book, as well as explaining how she came up with the idea for Moment in Time, a very moving story。SO being clueless, as I was reading, I could sense there was more to this story, to their pasts, and the author reveals bits and pieces as you read。 But I kept expecting the traumatic events from In an Instant (without knowing it was from another book) to lead to some surprise twist in Moment in Time。 And while there were twists in the novel, none that connected the two stories。 I want to review Moment in Time on its own merits, but all the above may make it challenging。 I’ll give it my best shot。I was riveted by the story of Mo, Chloe, and Hazel, three roommates in San Fransisco。 And we jump right into the action, which is exciting, but also didn’t give me much time to keep Mo and Chloe straight, the characters who provide our two points of view for the book。 I kept confusing them in the beginning。 (If you’ve read In an Instant, you probably won’t have that problem。) When Hazel disappears after being sexually assaulted and her attacker ends up beaten almost to death a day later, Mo and Chloe find themselves in the middle of the mayhem, desperate to find Hazel and deliver justice。I didn’t want to put this book down, frustrated at times by Mo’s and Chloe’s decisions, but eager to see how events played out。 Some of those bad decisions included an injured stray dog Chloe has rescued, who often stole the scenes。There’s also a side romance—which Redfearn is always good at—that I adored, giving the tense story some levity and hope。I feel like if other readers have read In an Instant or at least go into this one knowing the connection, they won’t have the same difficulties I did。 So while this one had me a bit confused at times, I was enthralled, quickly turning pages to reach the satisfying ending。 Thank you to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for providing me with an advance copy。Check out my reviews and playlists at A Book Wanderer#popsugarreadingchallenge2022 (advanced prompt #10 - Two books set in twin towns, aka "sister cities") 。。。more

3。5 STARS - When I hear that Suzanne Redfearn has a new book coming out, I get excited。 Ever since I read her book In An Instant back in 2019 I have been a fan。 I eagerly began reading Moment in Time but I didn't realize it was a follow-up to In An Instant (a five star read for me!) where Redfearn checks in on a few of the characters 8 years later。 And it wasn't until the author's note that I realized a few characters from her other books made appearances in this new story。 An interesting blend 3。5 STARS - When I hear that Suzanne Redfearn has a new book coming out, I get excited。 Ever since I read her book In An Instant back in 2019 I have been a fan。 I eagerly began reading Moment in Time but I didn't realize it was a follow-up to In An Instant (a five star read for me!) where Redfearn checks in on a few of the characters 8 years later。 And it wasn't until the author's note that I realized a few characters from her other books made appearances in this new story。 An interesting blend of her books, for sure。Some say this book could be read as a standalone but without knowledge of Mo and Chloe's backstories or more hints for readers who have read In An Instant, I think readers will struggle to fully connect with the story。 It felt like it was assumed that the reader already knew the previous relationships which was a bit frustrating because after 2 years I barely remembered who was who, especially tertiary characters like Oz and Finn who are mentioned briefly and without enough explanation of who they are。Date rape is an important social topic that is introduced in this book, and I recommend readers read the author's note to learn about the author's inspiration for this story。 We see how the legal and medical systems treat rape victims, but this emotional topic felt sidelined when the book became more of a whodunnit with Mo and Chloe's sometimes immature decisions and the subplot tangents distracting from an opportunity to look at the emotional aftermath of date rape。 This wasn't the page turner that I was expecting, but it was an interesting mix of contemporary fiction and whodunnit within a story about friendship, loyalty, and revenge (with an awesome canine character t'boot)。 Suzanne Redfearn remains an author that I eagerly look forward to reading and I can't wait to see what she comes up with next。Disclaimer: My sincere thanks to the author for providing me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review 。。。more

What a powerful book! Suzanne Redfearn writes stories that will bring out all the emotions in you。 You will be sad, angry, sympathetic, and in love。 This is the story of three friends。 When one of the friends has a tragic event, the other two do everything they can to help even if it means following their friend to a different state。 Along the way, the two friends have their own adventures。At the end of the story I wanted to stand up and cheer。 The message at the end is exactly on point。 I loved What a powerful book! I loved Suzanne Redfearn's riveting novel "In An Instant", I still recommend it to people! But this follow-up?。。。。 After having lived through the circumstances in the previous novel, I would've thought the characters would be more mature。 Instead, they seemed to have regressed, and continually made an already terrible situation worse。 I didn't love this book, but I didn't stop reading it either。 The plot moves at a fairly fast pace, and adeptly links the side stories together。 Overall, the writi I loved Suzanne Redfearn's riveting novel "In An Instant", I still recommend it to people! Intricate, compelling, and dark!Moment in Time is a complex, sobering novel that takes you into the lives of Mo and Chloe, two young women who, after their roommate is drugged and sexually assaulted, careen down a path of retribution, revenge, and recovery that involves a misogynistic police officer with aggressive and obsessive tendencies, a perpetrator with no conscious and a history littered with allegations, and a victim running to find peace and quiet after her world has been violently shat Intricate, compelling, and dark!Moment in Time is a complex, sobering novel that takes you into the lives of Mo and Chloe, two young women who, after their roommate is drugged and sexually assaulted, careen down a path of retribution, revenge, and recovery that involves a misogynistic police officer with aggressive and obsessive tendencies, a perpetrator with no conscious and a history littered with allegations, and a victim running to find peace and quiet after her world has been violently shattered。The writing is tight and intense。 The characters are impulsive, troubled, and naive。 And the plot is a taut, twisty tale of life, love, friendship, grief, guilt, drama, tragedy, justice, and introspection。Overall, Moment in Time allowed me to step back into the lives of some of the characters from Redfearn’s other books, and even though it didn’t pack the emotional punch of In An Instant, which was one of my favourite books of 2020, it still tackled some difficult themes and kept me engaged and entertained from start to finish。Thank you to Suzanne Redfearn for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more
